Play the Banjo!

Banjo Strings Map

Click on a string!

This is an image map with links built in for eachstring. Just click on a string to hear it picked!

I also have placed the links here (in the sequence of the strings. G D G B D (standard G tuning for those of you that play.) I also have a slide,a hammer-on, a pinch, and a sample of me playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown by the great Earl Scruggs.

I apologize in advance for the poor audio quality of these files.I have very limited space available here and higher quality files would take more space. I chose .AU format because most browsers can play it without helper apps.

Tuning your Banjo

By the way, I have had a number of persons ask me to make the.AU files available for FTP for the purpose of using them to tune their banjos:

  1. You can download the .AU files by "right clicking"on each one (the text links) and selecting "Save this link as".
  2. I would not recommend this use of them because there is a level of distortion associated with my local recording conditions, and your local playing conditions and software settings (your bass and treble equalizer settings, for example) which makes the samples an unreliable reference for tuning (IMHO).
